History Of Sunglasses
Sunglasses have become a part of our everyday eyewear and it’s hard to imagine a world without them. When did they first come into existence and from who did they first come into existence?
The oldest forms of sunglasses have been found since the early Inuit period. Inuit people believe that they originated to the West of Alaska and Canada at the time of The 1000 Common (CE) the era. (CE).
Living in areas with a lot of snow The Inuit were believed to have invented the concept of snow goggles to protect themselves from photokeratitis. It is also known as snow blindness.
The artifacts from this time were made of driftwood, ivory, and bone. They featured small slits cut into the eyepiece’s front. They also reduced glare through blocking the openings with soot and gunpowder.
Who was the first person to design modern sunglasses?
Darkened glasses were the first invented. They are believed to have originated in China around the 12th Century. However, they were available only to the wealthy and used to disguise the views of the officials within the law system.
In the latter part of 1800, James Ayscough, an English optician, proposed the addition of tint (primarily blue, green, and amber) to glasses to address a variety of vision problems. This resulted in the possibility that Ayscough is often considered to be the first person to develop sunglasses even though the glasses they designed weren’t designed to shield eyes from the sun.
Crookes lenses were made available at the beginning of 1900. Sir William Crookes was a British chemist and physicist who invented a 100% ultraviolet-light-blocking sunglass lens made from glass containing cerium. However, it took 29 years before he could come up with the idea of wearing sunglasses on a regular takeoff.
1929 was the year Sam Foster launched a plastic manufacturing firm in Massachusetts and began producing celluloid along with other materials. The initial injection molding equipment was developed. This machine enabled us to make mass-mark mass-marketed glasses for the first time.
Foster started making sunglasses available under the label Foster Grant through one Woolworth retail store located at Atlantic City, New Jersey. In 1937, 20 million glasses were believed to be distributed in the U.S.
Since the beginning, polarized sunglasses have been an integral element of our daily life. At present, the United States is home to the largest market for sunglasses worldwide with more than $4.66 billion in revenue in 2018.

When was the first time polarized sunglasses were invented?
Edwin Land, who founded the Polaroid Corporation in Cambridge, Massachusetts developed the first pair of sunglasses equipped with a polarizing filter in 1929.
He was in 1935 when he signed a contract in 1935 with American Optical Company to produce the first sunglasses equipped with Polarization.
Polarized lenses come with a filter that stops the intense reflections of light, thus reducing reflections and improving the clarity of vision. They are recommended to perform a variety of sports and sports because they help reduce the glare caused by reflections of light off flat surfaces, like water, sand, or even a flurry of snow.
